A Call to Discipleship
Christian - One who is like Christ. Christ - 1. Jesus the Messiah. 2.
The Anointed one. Anointing- 1. Calling and assignment. 2. Power and privileges to fulfill your duties
or to carry out the assignment.
"And the disciples were called
Christians first in Antioch." (Acts
11:26)
In order for one to declare themselves to be apart of a group one must meet
the qualifications for being a member of that group. The Apostle Paul puts it this way " we are to be ambassadors
for christ", (II Corinthians 5:20). That is we are to be living examples and representatives of God's Kingdom at all
times. The term ambassador also implies that it is our job. The Holy Bible constantly makes reference to the fact
that we shall be rewarded or we shall reap what we so, that is to imply that there is a payday coming forth..."the wages of
sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life." (Romans 6:23). In order to assure that one is indeed able to
be declared a Christian. God says that this is what must be done:
1) You must be born again.
To do that you must: A) believe that God exist and that his son gave himself
for our sins. B) Embrace him and the fact that he is the messiah, or savior. C) And repent, that is
turn from your evil ways or carnal nature. St John 3:1-21
2) Follow his commandments and learn his ways
To do this one must: A) Learn what they are by: 1. Communicating
with God (prayer and meditation). 2. Reading and studying the Word of God (the Holy Bible).
How can one declare themselves something without knowing what it is? Full conversion
does not take place until one has a basic understanding of who they will be as a member of a body. Which is in this
case the Body of Christ, commonly referred to as the Church or Christianity.
In summation one must be a disciple of the Son of God to be a Christian.
Disciple
-
- One who embraces and assists in spreading the teachings of another.
- An active adherent, as of a movement or philosophy
That is you must be taught. Reading and studying the Holy Bible which includes narratives and teachings
from the Bible will help you to grow as a Christian. In order to be a student you must have the necessary tools
to understand the manual or textbook assigned to your course. So by all means, with all of your getting get an
understanding. Read your bible in your language with study helps like a Webster's Dictionary, a bible dictionary and
concordance. We suggest: Zondervan Teen, Children's and Adult Study Bibles, Strong's Concordance and
Thompson Chain Reference. And of course please feel free to use the ones posted on this page. Remember
to go the horse’s mouth so to speak, and go to the source. Read the Holy Bible in its original languages (Hebrew
and Greek).* The bible says:
1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly,
nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
Psalm 1:1&2.
"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto
my path."
Psalm 119:105
"Study to shew thyself approved unto God"
II Timothy 2:15
"This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate
therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy
way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt
meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou
shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success."
Joshua 1:8
This is the call to discipleship... "And whosoever will, let him take the water of life
freely." (Revelation 22:17).

* It is recommended that new Christians read the
4 gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.) These are the historical accounts of the acts of the founder of our movement,
Jesus the Messiah, of whom we are to imitate. Again to be a disciple you must know the ways of your teacher. It
is also recommended that you read the Psalms and Proverbs. There are 31 proverbs. So read a proverb a day.
Then break it down (use study tools, i.e. dictionaries, commentaries, etc.) for understanding.
