Through thick and thin, wheather seen or unseen.  Shows respect for  your wishes and desires, helps you to acheive that which you aspire.  A listening ear, a shoulder to lean on, cry on as we through time float on.  Ode to a friend.

Friends defined. An outline for Proverbs chapter 6

I.  If you find that you are in a bind!
  • Refer to Verses 1-5.  If you find that you have made vcompany with one who is undesireable or if you have gone as far as to make some sort or vow or oath to that person.  Upon finding out there loathsome and troublesome demeanor quickly abolish your "friendship".
  • Beware because they become a snare or trap that drags you into their miserable plans which has miserable consequences.
  • Please note that this is the only time permissable to leave a friend or to not be friendly.  Ironic is it not?  Especially when compared to Proverbs 18: 24a which reads as thus:

"A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly..."

Which leads us to point number 2.

II.  How friends are made.

  • That is to say, in short in order to make friends you must seek friendship in order to have friends. You must put forth your best effort to reveal your real self with a cheerful accepting demeanor.  Be both a listner and a speaker.  Establish open communication.  However Proverbs 6 warns us to be leary of certain fellows.

III.  With whom not to befriend:
See Proverbs 6:12-19
  • This person displays the tell tell signs of foulness by where they choose to enjoy themselves and how they enjoy themselves.  This passage gives clues as to what demenors to watch for.  You know shifty eyes sower face signs of a mind that is the devils den and a heart that suddenly turns cold if not that all the time.

And beware of certain fellas:
See Proverbs 6:24-35
  • Guys, by playing the field with a married woman you develope and harnest bad traits.  Traits that you must keep going as long as the relationship is on going.   Such as being  desperate, jealous, loathsome (having low standards), and etc.
  • You end up paying double for your trouble.
  • You defenately violate your requirement of being friendly first in regards to the husband.  And vice versa for  gals.

Then with whom shall we befriend?
IV.  What type of person makes a good friend.
  • One who ruleth or governs himself well.  Tries his best to live a balanced wholesome lifestyle and is a good worker.   Proverbs 6:6-8.
  • One who keeps the Lord's commandments, upholds the law (of both The Creator of all things and government) and is respectful.
  • Make sure that you yourself are worthy of being in the company of individuals of such calabur.  By having those traits yourself.

Refer to Proverbs 27:17

"Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend."

From that we conclude that improvement should be a constant.  As we together work towards the goal of holiness.

Hebrews 12:14

"Follow peace with all men and holiness without which no man shall see the LORD."

and

Psalm 34:14 - "Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it."

Anyone who desires a lasting covenant with good intentions is of quality.  Consider the end portion of Proverbs 18:

"... and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother."

Blessed is the one who finds a true friend.

V.  True friends are forever.

  • True friends say "Together we shall live, harnest the power of the Most High and  together we shall fight the enemy in order to overcome adversity and to survive."
  • Sometimes we start together on the same course.  Then that friend becomes another person.  At that point you must part company and move on.  Continuing on your course no matter what anyone else says.  Wishing the other person well.  In hopes of finding another.

But we have consulation in knowing that:

VI.  We all have that friend in the ultimate friend found in

Proverbs 6:20-23.

The word of God.  The light in Psalm 119 and Isaiah 9.  The personification of the Word of God and the light of life in the Messiah and ransome payment for mankind's sins found in St. John chapter 3.

VII.  Why go through the trouble of being a good friend?
  • Respect.  Especially to honor the Creator of all things. As mentioned ealier and in Psalm 24.
  • Rewards in eternity.

Again true friends are forever.  Amen.
